For our a tabacco company in Neuchâtel, we are seeking an:

Associate Scientist - Analytical Chemistry

Location: Neuchâtel

Contract: 9 months with possibility of extension

The successful candidate will join the Product Research Unit and  will perform analysis in support of non-targeted and mechanistic investigation studies conducted to characterize our novel products. Furthermore data processing, transfer of data evaluation strategies and optimization of workflows (identification and semi-quantification) is of key interest.

Main Responsabilities:

  • Be responsible for conducting non-targeted studies and supporting chemical characterization applied to research projects
  • Perform sample preparation together with lab technician(s), GC×GC-TOFMS and GC×GC-HRAM-TOFMS analyses for non-targeted screening and non-targeted differential screening of various matrices
  • Conduct analyses using pyrolysis GC-HRAM-TOFMS methodologies
  • Carry out data processing and evaluation, identification and semi-quantification
  • Participate in the optimization of automated data processing workflows
  • Maintain, operate and troubleshoot GC-MS instruments and other analytical equipment.
  • Contribute to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), research protocols and study plans.

Skills and Competencies:

  • MSc or BSc in chemistry, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or equivalent qualification
  • One to three years of hands-on experience in analytical method development, validation and sample analysis using GC-MS techniques
  • Practical experience in advanced gas chromatography (GC×GC) and/or mass-spectrometric techniques (high resolution MS) would be advantageous
  • Mass-spectrometric software and database management skills would be an asset
  • Sample preparation and extraction techniques
