For a tobacco company in Neuchâtel, we are seeking a:

Metabolomics Scientist

Location: Neuchâtel

Contract: open ending

The successful candidate will join the Biomarkers & Biosensors Research team.

As an associate scientist, you will optimize and validate targeted and/or untargeted methods using either gas or liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometric detection (for targeted quantitative or untargeted metabolomics approaches). Perform routine analyses of various metabolomics projects according to business priorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine analysis of targeted and untargeted metabolomics projects.
  • Responsible for the laboratory MS instrumentations. Keeping abreast of new technology of interest in the field of metabolomics.
  • Daily operation of the mass spectrometers and associated equipment involving sample analysis, routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to scientific approaches by planning and conducting untargeted and targeted quantitative metabolomics studies according to system toxicology program.
  • Maintain the lab activities according to ISO 17025 and GcP quality and environmental health safety standards.
  • Write work instructions, standard operating procedures, and research protocols.
  • Contribute to scientific reports, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.

Skills and Competencies:

  • • University degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or at least 3-years’ experience in academic and/or industry.
  • Proven hands-on experience in bioanalytical method development, validation and sample analysis using GC- and/or LC-MS(/MS) techniques.
  • Experience in untargeted metabolomics (biological sample preparation, analysis, data processing).
  • Experience in CRO, GLP, or GcP quality standards.
  • Practical experience of advanced hyphenated mass spectrometric techniques including high resolution accurate mass measurements (Q-TOF, Q Exactive).
  • Good knowledge of biological sample preparation prior to GC- and/or LC-MS analysis.
  • Open-minded and team player.
  • Fluent in English both writing and speaking.
