For a tobacco company in Neuchâtel, we are seeking a:

Project Manager with scientific background

Location: Neuchâtel

Contract: 1 year

Are you an experienced project/program manager with scientific background? We are looking for a contractor to help us manage highly complex but interesting strategic projects, particularly in the area of in vitro and in vivo screening and testing. You may be involved in several different projects and activities, but will be working on a project to explore the therapeutic use of biologically active substances, including plant derived alkaloids and derivatives thereof for applications in different therapeutic areas. You will be working in a highly dynamic, cross-functional and collaborative environment together with both internal and external stakeholders from different disciplines and levels of seniority.

These will be some of your responsibilities:

  • Define, plan and manage projects, combining rigour and precision with flexibility and agility. You will manage the projects within agreed scientific objectives, scope,budget, resources and timing, whilst adhering to quality and scientific standards,using established project management practices and agile methods according to the business needs.
  • Lead a project team that may span a number of functional areas, companies,countries and time zones. Coordinate laboratories, supplies and human resources for assigned projects based on historical information, input from SMEs, and general understanding of project tasks. You will anticipate and mobilize cross functional resources when required (e.g. science, procurement, legal, finance, 3rd party suppliers, etc.).
  • Act pro-actively to increase quality and mitigate risks, collecting requirements and performing risk identification and analyses.
  • Manage the project communication among team members and other stakeholders, writing program and project status reports and distributing project information to key program and project stakeholders on a regular basis and as requested.
  • Manage supplier relationships and outsourcing activities, such as contract and purchase order establishment, financial management and cost tracking in collaboration with supporting functions.
  • General office management such as booking meetings and teleconferences, organizing visits, taking meeting notes.
  • Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of information.

Skills and Competencies:

  • A PhD or Master degree in life sciences such as medicine, biology, pharmacology, biotechnology or related disciplines is mandatory. A good understanding of in vitro and in vivo screening and testing is highly advantageous.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP, PRINCE2 or IPMA) is highly advantageous.
  • Agile certification (e.g. Scrum Master) is a plus. Additional business management qualification(s) is a plus.
  • More than 10 years of experience in multinational life sciences, food, pharmaceuticals companies/startups/academia and at least 7 years of experience in project management and in managing global/large scale projects. Experience in contract management, procurement and financial policies and systems is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems such as OECD, GxP, ISO is a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, in particular MS-Project, Excel, Power point and Word.
  • Fluent, well written and spoken English is a must.
