For our client, an international company in Basel we are looking for
Automation Engineer
- Start date: ASAP
- End: 1 year contract
- Extension: possible to 3 years

Within Pharma Research & Early Development (pRED), the Investigative and Immuno Safety department provides safety assessments for drugs in development. Cutting edge in vitro safety assessments are designed and applied to investigate the human relevance of safety flags, support clinical dose selection and provide regulatory compliant data packages for clear decision making.
The perfect candidate:
The perfect candidate has a M.Sc. degree or higher in cell biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or related discipline. We are looking for someone who has had at least one year of experience in programming and operating liquid handling robots like Tecan Freedom EVO/Fluent, Beckman Biomek Fx/i7 or Hamilton STAR/Vantage. Additionally the ideal candidate should have 2-3 years of experience in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture techniques.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement assay protocols on various liquid handling robots (Tecan Fluent, Beckman i5/i7, Opentrons OT-2)
- Design, plan execute and present experiments independently
- Perform data analysis and document findings
- Develop and implement automated cell culture workstation (Tecan Fluent, Hamilton Vantage)
- Automate the data flow between instruments, IT systems, and raw data storage
- Present results to the broader R&D group
- Be part of a multidisciplinary project team consisting of specialists in the field of cell-based assays and automation
Must Haves:
- Minimum M.Sc. in cell biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or related discipline (PhD candidates are also encouraged to apply)
- Minimum 1 year experience in programming liquid handling workstations
- 2-3 of experience as a research associate in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture
- Profound understanding of cell culture, working in SBS-plate format and hands-on experience with liquid handling workstations
- Basic knowledge of Python programming
- Fluent communication both written and verbal English, German is a plus
- Soft skills: team work, time management, communication, problem-solving
Nice to Have:
- Experienced in development and implementation of automated cell culture
- Experienced in miniaturizing of biological assays
- Hands-on experience in 3D cell culture
