The Bern site acts as a center of expertise for development and manufacturing of innovative cell based viral- and bacterial vaccines and is recently expanding its portfolio into bacterial based therapeutic products.

Main Responsibilities:

Purpose of the PositionThe Downstream Process (DSP) development department is developing, transferring and validating various purification strategies and processes for a vaccine candidate. The scope of this temporary associate scientist DSP position is to support the existing team in various areas of activities ranging from hands-on development work in the lab, to planning and report of the experimental results.

  • Plan, organize, perform and document experiments for the DSP development team
  • Contribute actively to process development and scale up activities
  • Execution of experimental packages, preparation of required materials (chromatographic columns, buffers, etc.), preparation of chromatography systems (Äkta Avant and Pilot)
  • Maintenance of technical equipment and tasks in lab organization according to 5S methodology.
  • Supporting the team and work collaboratively with internal colleagues
  • Stay up to date on novel technologies related to the work area
  • Implementation of new techniques and technologies

Qualifikation

Who we are looking for:

  • Master or Bachelor degree in Biotechnology / Biology / Biochemistry / Process engineering
  • Practical experience in DSP process development & scale-up of biomolecules, preferably vaccines
  • Hands-on experience working with chromatography systems is essential.
  • Knowledge with DoE and statistical tools for study planning and data evaluation preferred.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical capabilities
  • Team player and a personality with excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Capacity to communicate fluently in English and preferably German
  • Experience with GMP or/and upstream processing would be an asset
