Associate Scientist - Physico-chemistry/Physic – Method Portfolio Maintenance

Location: Neuchatel, Switzerland

Contract: 1 year with possibility of extension

Start date: asap

The candidate will join the Analytical Method Portfolio Maintenance (AMPM) team within Central Analytical laboratories (CAL). The main objective of the AMPM team is to support the analytical laboratories within CAL by developing and validating new physico-chemical and/or physical and/or analytical methods used in the context of theassessment and development of RRPs. The candidate will mainly contribute and participate to the development and validation of physico-chemical and/or physical methods used for materials assessment.


  • Validation of physico-chemical and physical methods to support the development of materials for Reduced Risk Products (RRPs).
  • Plan and organize the projects in collaboration with the laboratory supervisors by providing detailed schedule about required resources and timelines.
  • Work in close collaboration with the scientists and laboratory staff within the Central Analytical Laboratories team.
  • Provide technical support to laboratory technicians to ensure timely and accurate release of data during the development/validation process.
  • Generate relevant documents related to the validation process (validation protocol validation report and improvement reports).
  • Ensure that method validation are performed according to internal guidelines.
  • Apply in depth data analysis to ensure the assessment plan integrity.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Education: Degree in Physico-chemitry or Physics (Bachelor, Master level or equivalent) or similar.

  • Work experience: 2-5 years of experience in the required field through demonstrated experience/education. Experience in laboratory environment and in standards applied in laboratories (ISO 17025; ICH Q2; FDA, guideline for the validation of analytical methods). Experience in method validation.

  • Experience in techniques such as spectrophotometry, potentiometry, viscometry, etc., and techniques used to evaluate the mechanical properties of materials (tensile strength, sealing strength, coefficient of friction, etc.).

  • Fluency in English and French required.

  • Strong PC skills; proficient in MS Office tools and Laboratory Information

  • Management Systems (LIMS).

  • Strong analytical and learning capability as well as productive work habits, creative thinking and quality oriented.
