The Bern site, with its approx. 500 people of over 25 nationalities, acts as a center of expertise for development and manufacturing of innovative cell based viral- and bacterial vaccines and bacterial based therapeutic products.

The Analytical Development (AD) Department develops, transfers and validates various batch release, stability, in process and characterization test methods for biotherapeutic products based on bacterial and viral technologies. It performs characterization, comparability and stability studies, provides analytical support to process development and quality control labs and manages reference materials. This Lab Technician position is located in the Molecular & Bio Assays team within the AD Department. The focus of the position is to support the team in conducting analytical development and optimization experiments for molecular biology methods and immunoassays for various projects in close alignment with the team's analytical scientists.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with proteins, DNA/RNA, viruses, cells. From sample preparation to analysis and data treatment
  • Planning and execution of molecular biology assays and immunoassays in line with procedures, e.g. qPCR, ELISA, Octet, capillary Western, SDS-PAGE/immunoblot, cGE, cIEF, total protein
  • Execution of molecular biology assay and immunoassay development and optimization experiments under the supervision of AD scientists
  • Summarize and present experimental data to the team
  • Adequate handling of notebooks and logbooks, regular update of lab databases and tracking systems.
  • Support writing of study plans and assay protocols in close consultation with AD scientists
  • Support routine laboratory activities such as maintenance of equipment and instruments, ordering of materials and material stock management
  • Follow project plans including protocols, SOPs and work schedules in a self-sufficient manner
  • Propose improvements of methods, processes, and systems


Who we are looking for:

  • Professional degree as laboratory technician or BSc/MSc degree in a life science discipline
  • Independent way of working and taking ownership of assigned tasks
  • Your team spirit allows you to integrate easily into an existing, dedicated team in a multicultural environment and to efficiently collaborate
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Hands-on experience with PCR, ELISA, Octet, cGE methods will be considered an advantage
  • Fluency in English. German knowledge is an advantage
