For a tobacco company in Neuchâtel, we are seeking a:

Metabolomics Scientist

Location: Neuchâtel

Contract: open ending

The successful candidate will join the Biomarkers & Biosensors Research team.

As a scientist, you will optimize and validate the automated sample preparation steps prior to gas and/or liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometric detection (both for targeted quantitative and untargeted metabolomics analyses). Numerous workflow methods will be required from different biological sample origins and according to specific and/or profiling metabolomics applications. In addition, mathematical analysis of large dataset will be required to speed-up data processing for untargeted metabolomics discovery phases.

  • Responsible for the robotic system. Clear understanding of the workflow needed.
  • Programming the robot software mainly using 96-well plates' format.
  • Daily operation of the robotic system according to the project business needs.
  • Develop specific scripts to enhance the quantitative deliverables of results according to high quality standards (traceability of QCs, internal standards,…).
  • Provide univariate, multivariate statistical input (PCA, PLS, OPLS-DA) from untargeted metabolomics analysis.
  • Develop routine scripts to better explore large datasets originated from untargeted metabolomics analyses to enhance and speed-up the metabolites identification.
  • Maintain the lab activities according to ISO 17025 and GcP quality and environmental health safety standards.
  • Write work instructions, standard operating procedures, and research protocols.
  • Contribute to scientific reports, conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.

Skills and Competencies:

  • University degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry or at least 5-years' experience in academic and/or industry.
  • Experience in automated sample preparation programming (liquid handling, liquid-liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, mixing, incubation,…
  • Experience in validation of analytical methods for R&D and control through univariate and multivariate analysis as well as through validated scripts to enhance throughput.
  • Proven hands-on experience in interdisciplinary research projects involving chemometrics, univariate and multivariate statistical analysis (PLS, OPLS-DA, PCA) in the field of metabolomics.
  • Good knowledge of mathematical analysis/simulation packages (Matlab, R, Simca,…).
  • Open-minded and team player.
  • Fluent in English both writing and speaking.
