Software Development (Java, Python) Engineer – Laboratory Automation (LIMS)
Location: SLausanne
Industry: R&D / Laboratory / Life Sciences & Foodtech / Pharma
About Us
At Randstad Digital Switzerland, we connect top-tier tech talent with forward-thinking organizations. We are currently partnering with a visionary client operating at the cutting edge of research and development.
Are you a developer who gets genuinely excited by science, laboratory data, and IoT? Do you prefer being hands-on, bridging the gap between sophisticated software configuration and data pipeline engineering? If you have a passion for R&D contexts and love seeing your code optimize real-world scientific discovery, we want to talk to you.
The Role
This is not a "siloed" developer role. You will be highly hands-on, acting as the technical engine behind our client's laboratory ecosystem. Your mission will be two-fold:
Advanced LIMS Configuration: Dive deep into a Java-based Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to design workflows, data models, and protocol orchestrations.
Data & IoT Pipeline Engineering: Build robust automation pipelines that leverage LIMS data and integrate laboratory instruments, robots, and IoT devices.
Your Technical Toolkit
Core Requirements:
Java Ecosystem: Strong development experience with Java (8+), Spring Framework, Apache Camel, and Maven.
Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Groovy scripting and building automation pipelines via REST APIs using Python 3.x and Apache Airflow 3.x.
Data & Databases: Solid understanding of both SQL and NoSQL database management.
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with data visualization and tool customization (e.g., Python, Streamlit, Power BI).
What we are looking for:
Proven experience working within a Research & Development (R&D) or laboratory context.
Hands-on experience with LIMS engineering (configuration, data models, protocol designs, workflow orchestration) would be a clear advantage.
Experience with instrument, robot, or IoT integration (whether file-based, middleware, or API-driven).
Bonus Points for:
Experience in the Food, Biotech, or Pharma industries. Even if you do not have direct experience of LIMS, an interest in scientific projects will be a key motivator.
Due to the urgency and work location, we are only able to accept candidates currently based in Switzerland or nearby France with the ability to commute to Lausanne on a daily basis.
