Press release Randstad Award: Google is Switzerland's most attractive employer for the second year in a row

On 9 March 2016 at StageOne in Zurich, Google once again received the Randstad Award for the most attractive employer in Switzerland. The study carried out by Randstad showed that the main priority for Swiss employees is a pleasant working environment. Workplace flexibility, which offers choice in terms of where and when employees work, is also becoming increasingly important.

The third Randstad Award has been presented in Switzerland. The US corporation Google was presented with the Randstad Award for the most attractive employer in Switzerland for the second year in a row. The most important employer characteristics are once again a pleasant working environment, a competitive salary and job security. “Google satisfies many of the expectations that Swiss employees have of their Employer of Choice”, explained Taco de Vries, CEO of Randstad Schweiz. “In addition, Google is seen as an innovative and modern employer, and one which is extremely popular with employees.” Elodie Lhuillier, HR Manager of Google Switzerland, was also delighted with the Randstad Award. “It's fantastic to win the award as the most attractive employer in Switzerland for the second time. Even though Google benefits from a strong employer brand, the battle for talented employees, especially in the IT sector, is growing ever fiercer. That is why we are especially proud of this award.”

Watch manufacturers Patek Philippe and Swatch were next in the rankings, followed by Lindt & Sprüngli and Zurich Airport. Domestic companies are very popular again this year, with Google the only company in the top 10 most attractive employers not to originate from Switzerland.

Lindt & Sprüngli was honoured for the first time as the highest newcomer in the rankings this year. The company that made the biggest advance was the financial service provider SIX Group.  “This year we improved our social media communication and built up our own community”, commented Eric Stierli, Head of Human Resources at SIX. “Now we are very pleased with the positive effect that this campaign has had on the perception of potential employees.”

Workplace flexibility more in demand

This year the study also looked at the special topic of Workplace Flexibility. “More and more employers are offering their staff flexible working times or allowing them to work from home”,  said Taco de Vries. “Not only do employees appreciate this, but the younger generation in particular have even come to expect it.” The study reinforces this statement. Over 50% of respondents want to be able to organise their own flexible working days.
