We are looking for an experienced Senior Oracle Database Engineer / Lead Engineer to support a major Datacenter Exit and Cloud Transformation initiative.
As part of the programme, an existing On-Premises Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC) platform is being transitioned towards a modern Oracle Database@AWS / Exadata-based target environment.
You will play a key role in the architecture, engineering, implementation, and operational introduction of the new Oracle platform. Your hands-on experience with Oracle Exadata and ExaCC will be particularly valuable in designing and establishing the future hybrid Oracle operating model.
Depending on your experience and the project requirements, there is also the opportunity to take a leading role in the subsequent migration of existing On-Premises / ExaCC workloads to Oracle Database@AWS.
Your RoleAs Senior Oracle Database Engineer / Lead Engineer, you will combine hands-on engineering, architecture, and technical leadership.
You will:
Lead the technical engineering of the Oracle Database@AWS platform during its introduction and transition into operations.
Contribute to the architecture and build of the target Oracle@AWS / Exadata environment.
Transfer existing On-Premises ExaCC expertise into a future hybrid Oracle operating model.
Design and implement Oracle database infrastructure, including:
Oracle Linux
VM Clusters
Grid Infrastructure
ASM
RAC
Data Guard
Multitenant / CDB / PDB
Oracle Database Homes and patching
Support the design and implementation of networking, security, IAM, monitoring, backup and operational integration.
Establish standards for secure, reliable and highly available Oracle operations.
Analyse complex technical requirements and translate them into robust engineering solutions.
Manage and coordinate Oracle Service Requests, including technical assessment, workaround evaluation, root-cause analysis and coordination with Oracle Support.
Support capacity and performance management, including CPU, memory, storage, scaling and cost transparency.
Contribute to licence, BYOL, UCC and operating-model discussions together with architecture, procurement, licensing and service providers.
Integrate monitoring, alerting, logging and audit requirements with ITSM, security and SIEM processes.
Support operational transition, knowledge transfer and enablement of the internal database team.
If you take responsibility for the migration workstream, you will also:
Plan and lead migrations from On-Premises Oracle / ExaCC environments to Oracle Database@AWS.
Define migration strategies, technical approaches and migration waves.
Plan and execute test migrations, cutovers and fallback scenarios.
Minimise business downtime and operational risk.
Work with technologies such as Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), Data Guard, RMAN or comparable migration approaches.
Coordinate migration activities with application owners, infrastructure, network, security, operations and external providers.
Provide technical leadership during planned migration and maintenance windows.
Support the subsequent operational handover and stabilisation phase.
You will help ensure that the Oracle platform meets enterprise security, availability and compliance requirements, including:
Oracle database hardening and security standards
TDE and encryption
Roles and privilege concepts
CIS benchmarks
Backup and restore
Disaster Recovery and business continuity
Monitoring and alerting
Auditability and logging
Performance management and optimisation
Patch and lifecycle management
Incident, Problem and Change Management
ITIL-oriented operational processes
You bring several years of experience as a Senior Oracle Database Engineer, ideally with experience in a Lead Engineer, Technical Lead, or technical project leadership role.
Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database in enterprise environments.
Extensive experience operating Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer (ExaCC), ideally in an On-Premises environment.
Strong knowledge of:
Oracle RAC
ASM
Data Guard
RMAN
Multitenant architecture
CDB/PDB
TDE
Performance tuning
Experience with Oracle Linux and Grid Infrastructure.
Experience with Oracle Database and GI patching, Oracle Homes, VM Clusters and Exadata lifecycle management.
Strong understanding of backup, restore, high availability, disaster recovery and security.
Experience working in complex enterprise environments with architecture, security, operations, vendors and service providers.
Ability to take technical ownership and work independently.
Experience with Oracle Database@AWS.
Experience with OCI and/or Oracle hybrid-cloud architectures.
Proven experience migrating Oracle / Exadata / ExaCC workloads to cloud or multicloud environments.
Practical experience with Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM), Data Guard and/or RMAN-based migration approaches.
Experience with AWS and/or Azure.
Experience with Terraform, particularly for infrastructure deployment on AWS.
Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager.
Knowledge of Oracle APEX, ZFS Storage Appliance, Oracle Database Appliance (ODA), ODA Cloud@Customer or other Oracle Engineered Systems.
Experience with Oracle licensing, BYOL, UCC or cloud operating models.
Experience working with CIS benchmarks, enterprise security and compliance requirements.
Oracle certifications are an advantage, particularly:
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
Oracle Certified Expert (OCE)
